Great story, CO – ha ha! The Sales Manager called me once after I quit to put some feelers out as far as my work situation, I imagine to see if I wanted to come back. Supposedly she had a question related to the work I used to do, and I told her to send an email with the specifics. Then she launched into a bunch of questions about if I was working, looking for work, etc., so she was clearly more interested in that than the supposed question she had. In fact, she never sent me an email after all that.

Again, they were just so slimy. If the GM wanted me back, he should have contacted me and asked me directly, rather than having his lackey call me under false pretenses. If he was still so mad at me that he didn’t even want to call me to ask me to come back, why would I want to go back? In part it may have been an ego thing too, like he didn’t want to deal with me saying no.

More good news. I had a meeting with my boss towards the end of last week. She said she was extremely happy with my work so far. They are going to set the wheels in motion so I will be able to start telecommuting by the end of the month!

I am so glad. As far as jobs go, it is a good one, but the commute is really sucking the life out me. I will occasionally have to go in for a meeting, but only once or twice a month. So, I am getting back about 10 hours of my life a week! Plus I don't have to deal with the creepy, rude, questionable hygiene dwarfish guy so much. And, I won't have to come home to dog poop in the house. The dogs can make it to about 6 PM, but if neither of us can get home by then for some reason, they have had some issues. I am sure they will be happy to have me around again.

Yet again, I have to say that quitting that crappy job was one of the best things I have done.

Hooray for telecommuting!

I started telecommuting last week. The timing couldn't be any better since the winter cold and rain are coming.

This actually relates to my old job, but I just had to share it here because it's funny and I didn't know where else to put it.

I met up for coffee a woman who I worked with at the old job recently. She has her own company with her husband and ex-boss hired her through her company to do journalism work, so we worked together closely. I've been doing some translation work for her business on top of my other job so we discussed that but also got each other caught up.

She had quite the interesting gossip. Soon after I left ex-boss and his wife split up. He almost immediately started dating a recently arrived Venezulean woman who is the same age as his daughter. We have a lot of Venezuelans coming here because of the political and economic chaos there. Now, I know some age difference relations are based in love and can work, but according to her this is the classic case of a mid-life crisis divorcé hooking up with young woman looking for a sugar daddy. I am sure she is more than happy to have him paying the bills after escaping the mess in her home country. Apparently, he brings her to the office and it is quite the spectacle. He is aging by the day trying to keep up with her wanting to go dancing at 3 AM. He probably tells her what a successful business man he is  !

And as far as the business, it is hanging on, barely. He paid most people as independent contractors monthly. However, since this woman billed her through her business, he'd pay her 30 days after invoicing, which is typical. Or, at least that is what he used to do, he changed the terms to 60 and now asked for 90 days, because supposedly he is not getting paid on time by the clients. The guy that replaced me was fired because he sucked and the Venezuelan graphic designer found another job and quit as soon as his permanent residency came through.

On top of that, he had gone to the facebook page of her business and noticed in some postings that there were things translated to English (the work that I am doing). So, he started to harrass her about who was doing her translation work. She didn't mention me, just said that she has a team of people she's been working with for a while, but I am sure he knows it was me because he was very insistent and generally being an ass about it. What would it matter to him anyways? It's not like I had a non-compete agreement or even a work contract with him, and the work I do for her is quite different than what I did at that job. Again, what an ass.

^^ Yeah, my new job might not be perfect, but it is looking pretty damn good in comparison to that one. He seems to have some serious mental issues, that is for sure. Why was he so obsessed about the translations when I haven't worked for him for over a year?

My husband and I are wondering how long it will be before the new girlfriend gets knocked up. He's going to have to find the money for child support somehow!

 And now another interesting tidbit about my former company/boss, they have lost their two biggest members. One left a few months ago, and another just recently according to my friend who still works with him. I went to the website, and that company's logo is definitely gone as is a testimonial from the owner of that company about the service!

Those were the two companies that were there at the start and I know they paid much higher monthly fees than the other members (around 4X at least when I was there), so even though it looks good that they still have 7 members, there probably isn't much actual money coming in. With his rage issues, I can just imagine how he went ballistic when the company owner told him he was withdrawing his membership.
