So my doc asked me to temporarily go off BC because I was having intermittent periods when I was supposed to not have any (on BC full time). I went off and omg, the hot flashes! I am definitely in perimenopause. I'm back on the BC because they stop the hot flashes and, well, the babies too.

^^^ The wife just emerged the other side of menopause. She had hot flashes for a good four years.

Yep, and fuck that shit. Four years and still going.

The sleep deprivation is the worst thing for me. Waking up every hour and a half like clockwork to throw off all the covers leaves me a zombie. And I've developed a screaming intolerance to estrogen - taking it shoots my blood pressure through the roof, so taking BC or HRT is not an option. I can't even take natural alternatives like soy isoflavones or red clover, because the same thing happens. So my only choice is to tough it out until I'm done. :(

The only thing I've found that helps is Nyquil - the fever reducer in it seems to help the flashes, and it's about the only time I sleep deeply now, but I only take it when I really, really need to sleep. Although the flashes did stop for about three weeks a while ago, and I actually slept like a normal person ... it was fucking glorious, but unfortunately it didn't last.

You have my sympathies. Glad that at least you can go back on the BC!

I notice that I've been getting them around my period lately. I wake just drenched in sweat so much so I have to get a towel and sleep in that with my clothes off because the sheets are damp. I'm not sure if it's some sort of peri-menopause.
