Basically, Ellis wants to write the screenplay for the movie adaptation of "50 Shades of Grey". Actor Matt Bomer, who is openly gay, is someone who may be cast as the male lead, who has a lot of sex with a woman. Ellis feels that Bomer would not be right for the role because he is gay. Yet I hear that fans of these books are drooling for Bomer to play the part.
This is so stupid. Bomer is an ACTOR, who has to be good at portraying characters different from himself, or else he'd need to find himself another line of work. As long as he can be believable in the role, why not cast him?
I mean, if you watch "How I Met Your Mother", the character of Barney is quite the womanizer. Yet his portrayer, Neil Patrick Harris, is openly gay and married to a man.
Personally, I have zero desire to read these books or see any movie that comes from them. I'm just pissed off that someone is judging an actor's ability to play a role based solely on his sexual orientation.

I don't get why it's such a big deal. Lots of romantic leads over the years have been gay, whether openly or revealed to be later. It's a movie, and the guy is playing a part. That's like saying Chris Hemsworth shouldn't play Thor because he's not really a god.
Should it be made, I will never, ever see this movie though.

Acting is acting, gay or straight. If Matt Bomer (dammit, he's hot and he doesn't prefer indoor plumbing! Whyyyy??? ) can play the part, then by all means, he should! I'm sure he would be a hell of a lot better than, oh, Robert Pattinson, who just looks bored in every role he plays.

My main problem is that I wouldn't want Matt lowering himself to that movie. Plus he's charming and sweet enough that he might actually make Christian Grey sympathetic. Now if he can play him as a psychopathic serial killer and lend the horror to the movie that it really deserves then more power to him ... but the director would probably push for him to play it straight (no pun intended) and he's charismatic enough to make you overlook the rape and abuse and believe he's a genuinely good guy.
And trust me, his off-screen sexual orientation doesn't dull for a moment my on-screen crush of Neil on White Collar. Nice showing of your homophobia there, twitter dude.
Sexuality has no influence over awesomeness of an individual. And should have no influence over an actor or actress' being allowed to play a part if they play the part well.
I have no interest in the book or the movie or the original book series it spawned from. But since when has fan fiction become a viable source for novels and movie scripts? Hollywood. Out of ideas, you are.
