Well, it's been six months since I last posted on this thread, and I still regret nothing.

Sometimes I think I regret not having had children.

But when I spend time with friends' children, no matter how lovely they are, I am happy just to spend time with them, then go back to my own child free house.

It's also to do with feeling an outsider in my current city as it is so traditional. My friends with children structure their lives around the children's activities, exams, concerts, parties, etc. My SO and I only see them occasionally when they can fit us in. In my previous city it was a lot easier to have a social life as there was more going on for all ages. I didn't feel the pressure to have children then, but I see what it is like now - and I'm 48!

I have to work a lot harder here to find things to do, especially at holiday times, that aren't aimed at families with young children, while also avoiding the drinking culture for young adults at weekends. But it's always worth it and then I know we made the right decision.

Um, I regret not being more proactive in dealing with my depression in my 20s and so taking longer to finish grad school.

I regret wasting so much time trying to be the good daughter my narcissistic parents wanted when, it turned out, the best I could ever do only earned me a slight abatement to their criticism.

I regret being too timid to stand up against bullies a few key times in my life.

... that's really about it.

Notice what's NOT on the list? :)

Whenever I see all the crap parents have to go through, all I can say is thank God it's not me......or.....better them than me. Cause EVERY THING parents have to go through looks like such a pain-in-the-ass. I made my decision in my early 20's to never want kids, got sterilized, and am now over 60 & have never ever had a single regret.

If your motto is don't want any, don't need any, then stay CF. Chances are you won't regret it. On the other hand, if you decided to be a parent, and it turned out wrong......well, then you're screwed forever. Parenthood is a life sentence without parole.
