Curious. How many of you have feigned interest in (wanting to have) children simply to assimilate?

I voted "Rarely". I only do it if I have to to shut people up!

I don't pretend to be interested in having kids.

I am genuinely interested in some kids, those of my friends for example. I don't have to fake there!

It has never occurred to me ever to fake being interested in kids. I am who I am. I have my likes and dislikes. If people are offended by those preferences that's entirely their problem. Not mine.

I've had to pull out the fake, yep, but with both wanting to have kids and also being generally interested in kids, which I am not. I work with a solid majority of (very vocal) kid types, and I've had to temper myself to avoid the hostility. It sucks, but it's the truth. I'm only referring to work life. My personal life is devoid of this duplicitous behavior.

I don't work with a single person who is dubious about breeding.

I've never feigned interest in having children. I've occasionally feigned interest in children who happen to be present.

With marieta on this one and I only feign interest in the kid for a nanosecond and if I think the parents are OK....

I hate fake people. IMO if you don't have the balls to announce to most people that you don't want kids, you're not really Childfree. You're a fencesitter or conflicted wannabreed.

Not saying there's anything wrong with either of those other choices, but please don't try to pass yourself off as Childfree. It's disrespectful.

I couldn't pretend if I tried! I always say I'd make a bad FBI or CIA agent - even if I said so just for the benefit of others, my sneer and/or cringe may give me away
