Hello Fellow Childfree,

Parents sometimes state that parenting makes them selfless. How is fawning over someone because he/she has 50 percent of your genes selfless? Do parents put other people before their children? Nope. It's all about their own little family. Us, us, us, us! Half of the time, it seems more about the parents than the children (Look at me being superdad/supermom!) The so called selflessness of parental care is nothing but selfishness by proxy. And don't get me started on the martyr-esk sentiment. All self congratulatory behaviour.

And the idiot emotional call: "You wouldn't have existed if your parents did not have kids". So what? Since when can one suffer from non-existing? If you explain that to them, they look at your with dumb cow faces. My parents did not give me the gift of existence because I wasn't there when they decided to screw without birth control. They wanted a kid. They didn't pick me, like a pet in a shelter. Being born is not being chosen. It's so hard to understand for them, LOL.

I don't mind people having children. Lots of people think it over and make fine parents. But one of the things that enrages me is careless breeding. If you, for example, have serious health issues, don't breed. Not because people with illnesses are worthless, but because of the suffering (I know from experience). It's OK for your child to suffer badly as long as you can show your dick/uterus works? Really? Yes, all children and adults will suffer at one point. It's part of life. But if you allready KNOW that you're likely going to pass on some nasty condition, don't leave it up to faith, the doctors, whatever. Don't breed. Selfish fucks!

I'm not afraid to smack parents in the face with all this. That is, when they bother me with their bullcrap. How do you respond?

Usually my response is a flat "if becoming a parent really made you a better person, then we wouldn't need Child Protective Services."

That's also one of the things I say. My neighbors had two adopted sons. The bio mom of one of them threw her baby son off the stairs. I don't judge her because I wasn't in her shoes. She could have been mentally ill. But don't rave to me about the sacred parent-child (often mother-child) bond or how nothing can beat parental love. Nonsense!
I do not have a problem with procreating/parenthood per se but the plethora of ugly lies and myths about parenthood are utterly disgusting.

Child does seem sadly to be just a synonym for one's underage offspring. Guess breeders are capable of engaging only in a 50% selfless cause, if its remaining 50% is self-serving
