I got new glasses, and they've actually freaked me out twice now. There are metal decorations on the arms, and I can only assume that dim reflections of light off the metal has caused me to see shadows out of the corner of an eye. I was just in the basement, and it looked like something or someone moved in a closet that is off to my side. It also happened when I walked past an upstairs bathroom. It's made me jump, and look like I'm seeing things that aren't there (which is technically true), so I can't wait for this to happen at work.

Sorry, Almond. I hope it all works out ok.
--------
Just had this conversation with my mom:

"So, kind of exciting, we just got tickets to an interview taping by our favorite talk show host, while we're London! Guess who!"

"I don't know any of them people."

"Hint...you know this person. They're American."

"Is it Marty Stuart?" - my mom loves Marty Stuart.

"No. But you'd see them on all the news channels. They have a book out right now."

"Oh! Bill O'Reilly?!?" - my mom loves Bill O'Reilly.

"Not a man."

"Oh, God, I hope it's not that awful Hillary!"

"Yep, Hillary Clinton!"

"Oh, ok."

"Oh, it'll be fun, and it's just a couple of hours of our time, and we'll be sitting in the audience. Who knows, maybe we'll get a picture."

"Are they interviewing you, too?"

"What? No. Why would they interview me?"

"Well, I don't know. Two Americans in the same place, well, three if you count MrsCO, that must be unusual for them. They'll probably want to talk to you."

"Mom. Seriously. There are thousands of Americans in London every day. Not a big deal. Really."

"Well, wear something nice, just in case."

^ That's way better than my late grandmother's apparent assumption that you could just make a phone call and go:
"Hi, I'd like to be a contestant on Jeopardy."
"Okay. How's next Wednesday for you?"

Which talk show host, CarryOn? I think you mentioned before that you like to watch Graham Norton...

Almond, that news sucks. Was it just because "Apparently I'm always saying the wrong thing"? Good luck to you.

My current pair of glasses is like that. And those frames are plastic, but glossy. When the light catches them a certain way they make me think the phone on my office desk is ringing because the tiny red light on the phone seems to light up. You'd think the fact that the phone is not making any sound would tip me off.

^^^ Yeah, its Graham Norton. They were offering tickets for both this one-off interview and for a proper taping, and we obviously wanted the one for the full show, but we didn't get to pick, they chose for us.

Saying the wrong things was part of it. Dr S got annoyed yesterday when I was talking to someone about ancestors, of all things, and I mentioned that my dad's parents had died before I was born. Guess I didn't learn.
I wasn't happy anyway. They were way too nitpicky about damn near everything. Excuse me for not picking up after the Dr when he leaves his shit laying around.

oh CarryOn, for a minute there I got confused and thought you were going to the South bank event.

so which Graham Norton week do we look out for you?

First world problem alert - I went away for a few days and there was no fecking internet at the hotel. Another couple told us they had to walk about 15 mins toward the station to get any reception. They advertised it and apparently it normally works just fine. Couldn't plan any of the next days or get any coupons etc while in our room.

It's so dark and grey in London right now, I would love to go back up north but maybe the sun's vanished from there too now, I don't know. It was not forecast to be dull grey all day today but they have got the forecast wrong every day for weeks.
