Note, this is same the attorney that said he was responsible for the tweet wherein Trump claimed he fired Michael Flynn for lying to the FBI. Oops.

I mean, what does the average biblethumper in Kentucky or Kansas care about Jerusalem?

The only thing bible-thumpers know about Jerusalem is that God's chosen people live there. So when Trump declares it the capital, it's a dog whistle for (insane) Christians that says, "I'm on your side." That's the only theory I have, anyway.

^^^ That’s pretty much spot-on. There are some really interesting articles about it, including one study that found evangelicals support Israel at a higher degree than Jewish people do.

I've seen the Jerusalem policy referred to as a mistake or blunder on some news sites, but I don't see it that way at all. He is deliberately poking a hornet's nest because he wants to rile up anti-Muslim sentiment with his base.

^You're absolutely right. He needs Muslims acting "scary", so he can (disastrously) play the role of protector to his base.

It's an old truck of authoritarians. Either stir up or fabricate some enemies so you can unite your base, make them scared and angry and willing to trade away liberties and any checks on the leader's power, in exchange for "protection" and "safety".

See: the Reichstag fire, etc.

I went by my local library this afternoon to pick up some books. It is located in a pretty residential area. Most of the nearby buildings are homes, with a few odd buildings interspersed, such as the library, police station, and the high school. There is a fluffy black and white cat that often hangs out near the library. Much like that cat that has garnered some fame from being banned from that college library, this cat also likes to check out the library. The staff doesn't like him inside, but I don't think many people let him inside. He seems to enjoy just hanging out in front, meeting people. When I've seen him, he usually just comes over to say "hi".

Today, he decided to up his game. I was leaving with my books, and I see him over by the parked cars. He sees me walking to my car, and runs over to me like "Thank GOD you're here!" I figure he's probably just bored AF, or he thinks I have food. He's winding himself around my feet as I walk towards the car, and he's right there with me when I open the car door. He jumped right in my car, and got in the backseat like I'm to take him home. He'd never done that before. First, I'm allergic to cats. Second, my husband is allergic to cats. Third, I have three parrots who would not approve of this new housemate. I put the books down on the passenger seat and try to get him out of the car, but he jumps into the back (it's an SUV). I went around to open the back hatch, and he jumps into the back seat. I finally had to put the back seat down, and climb into the back of the car to get him out. Once I got him out, he ran towards the library and sat near the steps. I have no idea what he wanted, but I know have cat hair all over the back of my car and my black wool coat. At least forewarned is forearmed in case he's getting too friendly near the car again.

aw, I love cats!

Re Trump, he just wants to cause trouble. Trouble which will get people killed.

I am seeing a lot of Trump regret on Twitter but I realise Twitter is not a useful guide to a lot of things. Books and music, yes. Political opinion, not so much.

speaking of books, finally got round to ordering the Mothman Prophecies to read.

Rumours of snow in London. Meh. Hate snow.

Trump on Twitter is simply hilarious, yet horrifying, entertainment for me. I'm not even on Twitter, but a few websites keep track of the daily Twit-fits, much to my amusement.

Library Cat belongs to someone nearby. He has a collar, and he's obviously well-fed. I think he'd rather be in indoor cat, as he's always angling to get into the library, so I don't know why his owner won't let him inside. The cat's a bit odd too. I've seen him run from a squirrel, hide from a crow, and yet approach strange people and dogs like they're old chums.

CFinNY, I don't think that makes the cat odd at all. But then again, we have cats who hang at Tube stations here just to get fuss from humans.

I am on Twitter but I cannot bear to look at things said by the Orange One.

I get a sense there's a lot of protest going on over the Jerusalem issue and it's not being reported? UK news now also terrible at reporting protests - but like that for 2,3 years now? Interesting how these things sweep the world.
