I'm currently listening to a radio show where people are calling in with their student loan debt horror stories. Some have legitimate hardships (ex. private vocational/technical school closed unexpectedly without issuing certificates) but others don't need the oft-mentioned "counseling before taking out student loans". Like the lady who just called in with $60,000 - SIXTY THOUSAND - in student loan debt from community college? She doesn't need counseling concerning student loans. She needs a course in "How To Avoid Making Really Bad Decisions". Community college tuition here isn't that expensive. And with the loan particulars she mentioned, she must have spent quite a while trying to "find herself" at a two-year institution.

I looked at doing the Patisserie course at Le Cordon Bleu - it's a 9 month, bakery-only course. They wanted $20K...

Some of these colleges on TV are the worst culprits, especially the ones that advertise courses in Video Game Design etc. DH has been in the games industry since the mid 80s, and he says his heart sinks when they get resumes from these kids that have signed up for these courses that are pretty much useless...

I'm guessing none of those courses were on financial planning or critical thinking... if they were then maybe she wouldn't have racked up so much debt in what's supposed to be a 2-year run.

I need a new job.

I need new furniture too. I saw this thing on some hotel supplier's website that would be perfect for my apartment. It's a 4-poster couch. When you buy the matching coffee table you can push the two of them together, unfold the seating pad, and it becomes a bed (really big - larger than a king). I haven't seen anything like it on any other websites and I'm too clumsy to make it myself. *sigh*

I don't feel like going to the library today. I'll drop those books off tomorrow.

I went to the art institute of pittsburgh for animation before they had a game design course and the school would lead you on and the teachers would get in trouble for saying that half the stuff they explain isn't' true. Then the school complained about companies not hiring students at graduation like they used to: well when you're teaching kids who don't know what is needed in the industry no wonder. You're better off researching it yourself before you go to a school to see what the industry really needs. I still want to get into making games as a hobby and maybe cater to older gamers who aren't into where the industry is going these days.

There's no sense crying over every mistake. You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.
