On my way home I was driving behind a Suburban Mom-Mobile. I can be sure this one was a Mom-Mobile because emblazoned in large letters on the back window were the words "Softball Mom". Underneath that were three softballs, each with a girl's name above it "Hanna, Halie and Harlie." (Harlie? Like the motorcycle?) I guess the driver of this SUV identifies herself as the taxi for her three softball-talented daughters. I also wondered if it is really a good idea to advertise that three pre-teen or teen-age girls regularly ride in this car, and that they live in the house that it is parked in front of at night? Could a child pedophile get unwelcome information this way? Anyway, I thought it was worth a laugh, at the least.

Laughing with ya! However, that is such the norm where I live. My entire town/subdivision is just like that. A pediphile wouldn't last around here. These woman have their finger on the pulse of this entire area!!
Yea!! I have a showing on my house tomorrow...I may eventually get out of here.

Cindy, I see those stickers with the kids' names on them twenty times a day (I live deep in the heart of suburbia) and I always think the same thing. What kind of niave person puts her kids' names on her car? Is she living back in the 50's or what?

It's a big mistake IMO - a man approaching a child and addressing him/her by name would instantly have an advantage in obtaining the child's trust and co-operation. "Hi Lucy, your Mum asked me to pick you up - she's had some trouble with the Ford - she's at my service station" - lots of things sound right to the child - he knows my name, he knows Mum picks me up and drives a Ford... I saw a 3 or 4 year old girl recently with her name "Chloe" on her t-shirt - again, not a great idea. A 9 year old boy vanished in Melbourne a week ago - a few days later two young boys were approached by two men and were offered money to get into their van....thankfully, they refused... Sadly, this sort of thing happens... I don't think you should ever advertise your child's identity to the public. http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/ ... 61,00.html

Nope, she's not living back in the '50's. People didn't put their kid's names on their cars back then. They put them on kids shirts, caps, bags, and such. Wasn't a good idea then, isn't a good idea now.

Harley/Harlie is a fine name for a dog (or cat, or sugar glider, or guinea pig, or waterfowl) but for a girl? Who will one day be a woman? Can you picture a powerful CEO named "Harlie"? Or a president? Don't people realize that their kids will one day be adults when they name them?

Harley was the name of the love interest in the movie Pure Country with George Straight. She is a pretty actress and in the movie quite a good barrel racer.
