Moderate liberals and moderate conservatives seem to be less inclined to go in for the bingo. It's the far, far right and far, far left that you have to watch out for, IMHO. Whenever you have groups of people who are devoutly into their own beliefs, there's very little wiggle room for those of anyone else.
I lived in Anchorage, Alaska, which one would assume would be a haven for family-oriented types. This wasn't the case at all. People there are staunchly opposed to getting into each others' personal business.

^Yeah, I agree. The correlation between bingoers and tolerators isn't found in relationship to whether you're right or left, but how close to the center you are. More moderate folks are more likely to accept differences, while radical ones are very aggressive to anything that might be different.

I would say that this only further illuminates how much of a taboo it is to be childfree. Perhaps we can look toward the feminist movement where they were particularly good in raising awareness/consciousness of issues. I would say that the decision to have a child/children should be treated as equally as something such as deciding on a career.
First wanna say that youre awesome. Second i wanna say that this person should be hit with a blunt object. Several times. Everyday.
12:59 PM on 07/30/2012 This article makes me sad on so many levels but mostly it's just sad that people view children as a problem, a burden and a tax on their freedom. There is nothing in the world as "co-creative" as bringing a child into the world. There is nothing that requires more "die hard dedication to mutual support" than making the commitment to work together to raise that child. It is challenging to raise children and no parent can deny that it pushes you to dig deep inside yourself and give all you have to give, but there is nothing more noble or satisfying than denying yourself to give someone else life, and to give the world a chance at a better future because of all your hard work. Raising children isn't possible for everyone, but it should be the goal for most people who are able to do it. You have to ask yourself, what if everyone made the same decision I'm making - not to have children? There would be no future.
Im guessing the ones that do, are the ones who are clinging for dear life to their cognitive dissonance... Having to constantly talk themselves into feeling that its all worth it because deep down they realize more than anyone that its not all its cracked up to be. Then here we come withour very valid reasons as to why we dont want children and still feel we can live a perfectly fufilled life without them. How are they to justify all theyve sacrificed and lost with evil CFers out there saying that beingg a mother isnt the one and only path to fufillment and unconditional love? Of course theyre mad.
Ive mentioned this before in another thread but its relevant to this too so ill say it again... My cousins wife has always been very competitive with me.... Her husband and i have always been close, we're very alike as far as being very aesthetically inclined, we're both the types that dont go to the market without wearing fake eyelashes and like the same brand names, etc. Shes constantly bingoing me cuz she has kids and i dont... Always ramming the fact that shes a mommy down everyones throat in person, on twitter and facebook... Trying to paint a perfect little storybook picture and stuff. My cousin recently got hammered at a wedding and told me how he works extra hours to get away from his nagging wife and screaming children.... How wifey bawls her eyes out everyday about something or other, usually about the kids or aout her severe insecurity that he doesnt want her or love her cuz of her stretchmarks lmao

Such a great response that I think it's worth pasting here:
"Here's something I find interesting.
Whenever there are news article about neglectful or abusive parents, you see a lot of comments on here saying things like, "Why do people like this even have kids? People like this shouldn't breed!"
Yet when it comes to articles like this, those same types of people are commenting on why EVERYONE should want to have kids, how EVERYONE will regret not having kids, how it's abnormal/selfish/stupid to not have kids or want kids.
Why not trust the people that say they're not ready to be parents? Or the ones that simply don't enjoy children? Or even the ones that are afraid they're not cut out to be parents?
You condemn the parents who aren't fit to be parents, yet also condemn the people who recognize and admit that they're not fit to be parents for not having children anyway. You can't have your cake and eat it too."
This was my -EXACTLY- moment for the day.

I feel a similar way to you, OP, but I think that everyone should be born sterile and you'd have to register to get un-sterilized. Man, that would be awesome.
USAF_Kev- That quote is brilliant. The person who wrote that is smarter than most. And you know, when I've explained things to people in that manner, you can see the light coming on in their heads.
@ sputnik sweetheart I am a social conservative and a Republican. I haven't watched Fox news in a long while, though. (Just reminding readers of this forum that not everyone who reads, posts to, or who lurks at child free forums is Democrat/ progressive/ left wing/ atheist/ agnostic / pro choice.)
Regarding the original Huff Po editorial, or rather, the reactions it received on Huff Po, I had to stop skimming because I saw several posts hostile towards child free people. Sometimes I don't have the patience to deal with reading those sorts of views.
