Have you gone through your procedure yet? I just scheduled mine. I went in for my yearly exam and mentioned to the doctor that I was interested in sterilization. She basically shut me down, said "But you're sooo young..." then started telling me about other long term birth controls. By the way, I'm 26 and my husband is 30, not exactly teenagers. I ended up deciding to settle and try Paragaurd, since I wanted to go with a non hormonal option. A separate appointment has to be made for that procedure, though. A few days after my pap she called and said they aren't doing the Paragaurd with my insurance due to it not paying them enough. So, back and forth on the phone between some nurses and schedulers and the last one I talked to was kind of a savior. She asked if I had considered permanent sterilization. I told her that's what I had originally wanted but that the doctor had shut down the idea pretty quickly. She scheduled me within the week to meet with another doctor at their sister office. This doctor was wonderful! I went in all defenses up, ready to stand my ground but I didn't even have to. She spoke to me as a doctor to an adult patient and didn't even berate me with questions. In the end she basically said if I am sure that this is what I want then she would be happy to do it. This was on August 31st. My surgery is scheduled October 12! I will post afterwards for my surgery/recovery experience :D

Hi! Yes I did go through with the procedure. It's been about four months now. It was quick and easy with almost no downtime. I just had to take it easy for about two days. As soon as my period comes I'll schedule the follow up test to see if my tubes are completely blocked now.

Well, I got the imaging test done and my results are that my Essure was successful! I officially can't have kids so no more pressure! I highly recommend Dr. Jennifer Foley to anyone who lives in the metro Detroit area because she's the best.

Congrats, fellow Metro Detroiter!

Btw, I had a TL at 23 with a different doctor who was also awesome, good to know there are at least two good doctors in this area lol.
