Any takers for a possible meetup for childfree singles/couples either virtual or real, in India?

Hey! I am from India too! I am at Mumbai. I am a medical student. I never thought I'd find anyone from Indian here!

Nice.
I'm finishing MBBS in March. Will be taking the USMLE after that.

So, you're also a childfree believer eh?

India, of all countries, needs people like us!

I am not from India, but I have met many people from that country at school and work.

One person told me how there is a lot of pressure to get married. From his explanation, it sounded as though it is an embarassment to your family if you aren't married. Furthermore, the choice of the person you marry is also important -- He said that his family would disown him if he didn't marry a certain kind of person. As a result, he was having a difficult time finding a wife because of the narrow choices. Of course, this may not be the case in all parts of India, since there are lots of provinces and varying cultures.

I imagine though, that the pressure to have children is similar?

There are a lot of things one is supposed to think about before considering to marry someone - religion, caste, education, class. Love rather takes a backseat. People don't just marry anyone they fall in love with, even if it is perfectly legal. If young people don't follow these customs, they have to face the heat from their parents and relatives and even the neighbors. All this is more frequent in the rural areas than in the cities.

Thankfully, I don't have to face such problems because my parents are unusually liberal :D

The only problem I face here is the lack of childfree women. There are a lot of eligible girls here, falling over each other for marriage but but all 'baby-crazed'. What can guys like us do?

I would love to live my life in India, if I could find a childfree woman here.

Hmm, interesting.

Through college and work, I have met quite a few Indian women here in the United States -- Almost all of them seemed to be focused on their career or education, without plans to have children. Perhaps the personality of a person who comes to this country for school and work is different though.

I hope I don't sound boorish, but I have to say that I find Indian women quite desirable. From my experience, they are all highly educated and well mannered, and some of them are just as beautiful as the prettiest American girls.

I once went on a date with a woman from Hyderabad, but nothing came from it. I have read that out of all the people in the world, Indians are the least likely to date or marry outside of their culture. This probably relates to the same traditions which were mentioned earlier in this thread.

Indian women make the most perfect wives of all races.

But they all want to make babies! :-(
