Hi

I am based in Liverpool and new to this site. It's so refreshing to find other CF people. I'm currently in mourning as a child free friend of mine (who seemed very committed to being CF but has given in to her husband's desire for a child) got pregnant four months ago. We are due to go out for dinner with them next week, and quite frankly, I have no desire to whatsoever. My husband thinks this is unreasonable. Oh well...

I don't think it's unreasonable; you know what the evening will revolve around and you don't want to spend the whole time listening to the pair of them going on about morning sickness, home births vs hospital births, whether to eat the placenta or not...   !!! I think you're gonna have to just have a limit in your mind as to how long it's acceptable for them to talk about the baby. If they go beyond that, then move the conversation on to something else that you can maybe all get involved with. You may be pleasantly surprised and they will be one of those cool couples that still retains some of their personality, but in case they're not, make sure you have a get-out clause! ;)

Thanks. I didn't think I was being unreasonable either. We are now all to meet at a Comedy event on Sunday, much preferable to a cosy dinner for four and a bit. Quite ironically, they now only have tickets as another couple's babysitter has fallen through...a taste of things to come?

Still can't work out how I will react to my friend (actually, more my hubbie's friend's wife). We have only shared the joy of furry things before and she was a total child hater. Far worse than me.

I am deeply puzzled.

It's great to find people on here. Doncaster seems to be Breeder Central - well, we are the teenage pregnacy capital of the country, and also lead the way on childhood obesity - you wouldn't think you'd get both in one area, would you?

A collegue actually said to me the other day that he'd 'never met or even heard of a woman not wanting children before'. I wouldn't mind, but he's known me for about 9 years! I guess I've just never mentioned it around him before, but it's lovely to see folk make the child assumption if they're not told otherwise, isn't it  ?

Shiraz, it's not unreasonable, people change, we all change, and as we change we need to make changes!

Thanks Random. I do appreciate what you're saying, but we had planned to rent a villa in Tuscany next summer, just the four of us. So there will definitely be change. DH and I are now off to Thailand instead!

Welcome to TCFL "Byeee ra wae" ;)

We are Dorset based and we like to attend a good night in Glasgow, just one hour's flight from Southampton, particularly like The Old Fruit Market.
