I guess I joined on the 4 year anniversary! Yay for me! And congratulations for running a site that gives CF people a place to hang out.
I'm 34, work in IT and enjoy Volkswagen TDIs (diesel engines) and home improvement/repair. My wife is a couple years younger than me and we decided not long after we got married (almost 11 years ago) that we don't want kids. I'm considering getting the snip surgery because my brother recently had an accident with his wife. And when he called me on my birthday he was trying to tell me how great it is to have a kid. Never mind the fact that my wife and I think he's going to have severe problems because the baby went without oxygen for 2 minutes after birth. We do have a son though. He's furry and cute and his name is Pugsley. He's a Puggle in case you couldn't figure it out.
I've been lurking here for a few months and decided to register today because Force 10 had a thread that I wanted to comment on about what to do for a job if you don't like people.

Welcome aboard, dslfan! Glad you're here. Sorry to read about your brother's kid. I have a cousin that didn't fare too well after going without oxygen when he was an infant (turned blue from what I've heard). He's a sweet-natured kid but is severly mentally handicapped and can be almost uncontrollable at times. He will never, ever be normal and will require care from somebody for the rest of his life. I love him to pieces, but seeing the life of his parents made a permanent and ideliable impression on me. Very few people in the "you-should-have-kids-what's-wrong-with-you-for-not-wanting-them?" category will countenance the real risks of having kids. I, for one, worry that I wouldn't have a child who's merely precocious, self-centered and nigh-annoying (and expensive), but was acutally developmentally disabled or "special needs."

Hi all!
I joined a couple of days ago but never got around to posting an Intro post. I'm 24 and currently working at a residential facility for adults with dual diagnoses (mental illness/substance abuse). I am also a full time grad student, studying for my master of science in counseling. I graduate this May and am really excited! I'm currently in the process of completing 700 hours of supervised counseling at a rape crisis center. I am specializing in trauma therapy (with adults).
I have a 3 year old cat. She's out of control. Absolutely nuts/hyper. I am actually a huge dog lover but unfortunately cannot own one until I have my own house (I live in an apartment) and am not so busy so I can actually spend time with it. Anyway, as you may have assumed, I have chosen not to have children ever. I've known it since I was a child - when all the little girls my age were playing "house" or were being socially programmed to want babies or to play with babies, I was completely uninterested. My family supports my decision to be childfree, which makes my life nice. Even better, my boyfriend of almost 6 years wants children even less than I do (if that's even possible).
I have an appointment in August to try and convince my gyno to let me get sterilized! Woot woot! I hope to get to know some people here. Some childfree friends would be wonderful.
Eta: I just realized I spelled sterilized as steralized lol oh wow

I just joined after meeting washedinblackk in another message board and exchanging some private messages with her.
I am 40 and blissfully CF. I get along with kids very well, but don't want any of my own. I never actually wanted kids To top it off, I was in a relationship of 8 yrs which just came to an end and every person under the sun is asking me: "You need to rush and have kids - you don't want to miss this experience".
Well, I still want to skip it AHAHAH I have a pseudo niece I adore and another one on her way... so I'm totally ok with it.
I just wish the world would stop butting into my business, you know?
Yay LP!!! I'm so glad you joined Welcome.. I have a feeling you'll love this place as much as I do. Feel free to jump right in if any threads catch your eye or start your own.
