This is why I only finished a year of college. I was only there because everyone told me I had to be and had no idea what I wanted. If I had been able to take some time to figure out a plan first, I would've likely done better.

Same here. I'm thinking about going back for the general stuff, and then figuring out where I want to go from there. I don't know if I can do Vet Tech because I can't find a place that offers it, and I've read that a lot of places prefer you work in a clinic at least twenty hours a week, so there's my brick wall..

Edge, if you don't want to do it, don't sweat it. You've already gone through the work and stress of college, enjoy the fruits of your labor! If you are happy, that's all that matters.

You have TWO degrees. Which is two more degrees then most of the breeders around my area. Going back to school for the sake of going back to school is a waste if you aren't going to use any of the knowledge. Does your mum only want you to go back because your relatives are? So going back to school would be a status symbol for her? A person goes to school to get an education to get a decent job - you've done that..twice and you have what sounds like a great job.

Don't go!!! If you have no interest now, you'll have even less once it starts.

What? So you already have two degrees, and no doubt a student loan to go with them, and she thinks you should drop your paying job to get another one? You're a professional, not a professional student.

Whatever she's smoking, I want me some.

If your mother is so concerned about getting a degree, suggest she go get her own.

Fortunately I have no student loans to worry about. I did my BSN and decided that was enough for me.

Even if your education is free, there's always a trade-off of some sort. It usually means there's some kind of reduced income--maybe you have to work reduced hours, or maybe, like me, you're funded and don't have to work anymore, but now have a sub-poverty level income as a result. And then if you become a funded student, it means giving up 401k contributions (referring to your other post about saving for retirement,) while you're a student. So if you're happy with your job and are putting away money and have job security so that you can continue to do so, there is NO reason to go back to school.

It's when that security starts to go away, or you hate what you're doing, or find yourself being underpaid that it's maybe worth a look.

If you don't mind me asking, did you obtain your two BAs at once or was it a two shot process? I ask because I'm seriously thinking of returning for a second BA, but can't help thinking that it would validate that I made a poor decision the first time around.
