And, your family tries to make you feel like you are the most horrid, selfish monster if you refuse. Almost like this is really your responsibility after all. You don't have kids, so you aren't pulling your weight, or something.

I have always made it clear that under no circumstances would I take on anyone else's kids.

Oh yes, and their main selling point is "It's just till the littlest one is 18. It's not like it's a life sentence." does that help sell it to anyone? More appealing? Anyone?
Why in the world would anyone want someone who didn't want the job/responsibility to take their kids? I would think that lack of desire/interest would automatically rule someone out.
Not a chance in hell. Their brats, their problem. Besides, my family knows me well enough they would probably drop the kid off on the street corner before handing it over to me
Well, problem is, kitkat, nobody really seems to want 5 unruly kids with emotional problems, for some reason. Also, this particular family doesn't seem to care about what their childfree family member wants, and have not asked it in such a way--they just think ya ought a do it because you don't have kids, and are their "least burdened" next of kin. So, your "wants" and hopes, dreams, desires, relationship and career are not of their concern. Besides, it's not like it's a life sentence or anything.
I'd do it, but most of my vehement CF-ness comes from a total unwillingness to go through pregnancy, childbirth, "mommy war" bullshit (things like dealing with tit nazis pushing me to breastfeed - no thanks), poop, etc. I figure if I take in a relative's older kids, that stuff wouldn't be an issue. Besides, the chances of their parent dying are really slim.
My CF uncle was the person officially designated to raise me if my parents died before I hit 18.

I think the responsibility goes to the grandparents in this case. You had the child that was irresponsible and had all the babies - and you probably wanted a bunch of grandkids. Have fun with that.
