i know we have discussed on other threads about male/females stereotypes and things like that. this is definitely along those lines. every morning when i go online i have to admit i usually check the yahoo page and lo and behold there are usually a few "relationship" or men like this about women or clothes men like on women and stupid shit like that. and even though i tell myself i'm not going to read this drivel b/c it only infuriates me i usually wind up reading it and getting pissed off at the stereotypical advice or article. for example, there was an article about 8 compliments men like to hear: one of them was something like oh you give great advice. aparently men are so insecure that they need it stroked by a woman who apparently needs the advice of a man b/c they are incapable of making their own decisions. what women can't or dont' give good advice? women dont' want to hear that they give good advice? well i sure do! and i do give great suggestions i must say.i don't give advice not even to my Dh.i'll give my opinion or a suggestion if asked but that[s it. but i guess some men believe that they are so wonderful and experts that they can and should just doll out advice to women.bleh!! another example, there was another article called 9 bad things that your husband does that is actually good for your marriage. again sexist and ridiculous. so for the past week i have not read a single article along those lines period.
i'd like to know who these "experts":are and what century they are living in. and i feel for the poort shelps that actually follow these terrible articles.
my Dh is secure enough that i dont' have to go around stroking his ego and i dont' give a crap if he likes or doesn't like what i wear.i wear what i want and he wears what he wants. he doesnt' give me his opinion or suggestion unless i ask for it b/c well he's not an expert on all things and doesnt' pretend to be.
these kind of articles really just piss me off and it's a huge pet peeve of mine.
i'm so glad it's not me! i knew you get what i mean! and i'm serious about not reading them anymore. it's just a waste of my time and the articles are just silly! unfortunately to me they also send bad messages to men and women by reinforcing stereotypes. glad i never followed any of their terrible advice !

i'm glad to see that people are calling the authors out ! they should know how bad their articles are!i'm thinking of writing my own article called" dont' read of these terrible relationship/men/women articles!"

The exact same reason I don't read Cosmo or Redbook. "50 sexy moves to make any man melt!" "The 3 words he's dying to hear from you. Hint: its not what you think!" or "Is he ready for marriage? Take our quiz and find out!"
Fuck you Cosmo, this isn't 1950 where women are expected to live and breathe men, marriage and the baby carriage.

I used to read Yahoo articles a lot but I notices this trend too. In the past 2 weeks I have seen 3 articles about what clothing men don't want to see on women, 1 on bathing suit styles men prefer and don't prefer on women, 1 on hairstyles men like on women, and 1 on what men don't want to hear women say. I'm sure most women don't go walking around saying, "Oh, well i guess I won't wear a tankini to the beach this weekend and braid my hair because this article says men don't like it". I am sure most people can dress themselves, control their own speech, and go through their day not being concerned what the opposite sex thinks about it (or more like what the article says the opposite sex thinks).
I think some people are too encouraged to state their personal preferences and think they are of some extreme value to other people. I have personal preferences too, along with EVERYONE else on this planet, so I'm sure most people don't care how you prefer black hair to brown, subtle patterns on fabric, and minimal makeup.
The Yahoo news articles also constantly contradict themselves. They'll have an article one week about how some food is healthy for you and you should eat it daily then the next week will have one about how that same food will cause cancer. I seriously need to stop looking at this junk.

This is why I have not bought nor read a "women's" magazine in years. I don't need anyone trying to tell me what to wear, how to do my hair and makeup, what I need to do to please my man in the sack, etc. I managed to get a man just by being myself, and we'll have been married 12 years come next month. Why would any woman WANT a guy that they felt they had to put on a facade with? What a steaming pile of crap.

Personally, I'm just surprised yahoo is in business, considering their outstripped by their competition about 5 times over. I guess the cesspit that is yahoo appeals to the lowest common denominator or something.

I quit reading Cosmo too. I kept wondering why a so-called "women's" magazine was all about men.
I've also noticed a lot of women's magazines have contradicting covers. They'll have a picture of a skinny woman on the cover with some headline about weight loss, then up in the corner, right next to her head, will be a tagline about summer cake recipes. Or it will be the reverse. A big picture of some kind of food and a headline about how awesome the food is, then a tagline about how to lose five pounds in a day.
They're all about how to cook, lose weight, and submit to male sexual desires.
