So, this one's going to get a bit, maybe creepy. I watch and read a lot of crime drama, it's one of my favorite things, but one thing always got me. When the woman, 9 times out of 10 it's a woman, is begging her killer to let her go and one of the lines is "Please, I have children." Why would that work? I mean, do they really think saying that will make the killer say "Oh, in that case, you can go." Also, would this line work for Dads too or is it just Moms? What about "Please, I have puppies."

I'm not a serial killer here, and even if I was, I wouldn't tell you, but if someone said that, I think I'd want to killl them more. Really, just think about it. If I kill Mommy, then her kids'll be sad and maybe even screwed up in the head. More bang for your buck....some how that doesn't seem appropriate

Even if having kids saved you from being murdered, I still wouldn't have any.

It's an easy sympathy plea, and I could see why someone who had kids would be concerned about what will happen to them if they think they're about to die. I can't imagine it works very often though.

If someone was planning to kill me, I don't think I'd plead at all. I think that's probably what they want to hear. I'd keep my mouth shut and work out a plan. I'd be more likely to act sympathetic to the killer than expect a killer to be sympathetic to me.

A lot of cops/criminal studies people tell you that if you are ever in a situation where you are being raped or hurt and there is a possibility of getting murdered that you should try to make the criminal see you as a human being with feelings, friends, family, and less like a body (for lack of a better term). It will probably not work, but there is always a chance as it does work in some cases. You are tugging on their heart strings hoping that something you say will cause them to remember that you are a person like them.
It also shows that you have people that will come looking for you after you are gone. The criminal may (may being a strong term here) feel like you are more hassle than its worth and decide to let you go.

In reality, you are probably screwed but it doesn't hurt right? I would be telling ALL kinds of stories if someone was set on killing me.

I love to read about homicidal people and some of my favorite true crime stories involve mothers who kill their children. What's wrong with this picture?

rai_kou, I've thought the exact same thing many times. My usual response is to shout at the TV, "Let's go get them so they can watch!"

If I were a serial killer, that would put my unbalanced mind into such a rage that any thought I might have had would be gone and the bludgeoning would begin in earnest.

That plea didn't work for Sharon Tate.
