Does it bug anyone else how broadly parents use the term "baby"? I have a set of 19month old twins, a 2 year old, and a 7 year old in my close family, and everyone refers to all of them as "the baby"! I get dirty looks when I point this out- especially about my 7 yr old nephew- that he is no longer a baby at all and shouldn't be referred to as such. I think the cut off should be at 2 at the latest. If the kid can talk and walk, they're not a baby anymore! And ENOUGH with the 33, 42, 74 month crap! Just say that the kid is almost 3, 4, etc!

I agree, continuing to call the kid "baby" when it's walking is a little ridiculous. Probably the parents wanting to keep it in that "magical" place of babyhood as long as they possibly can. I also agree about the months thing. Your kid is not 752 months old. These are undoubtedly the same ones who are still calling it a baby; same idea. As long as you're still referring to its age in months, then it's still a baby, right?

I call my little Chiweenie a baby, and it makes my husband so mad. "She is NOT a baby!!" he says everytime I do it. Of course, now I just do it to piss him off.

Never when referring to puppies, kitties and other cute critters. They're all my babies!

LOL. I'm going to be 456 months next week.

On topic, I'd say after the kid turns 2 you should cut out the "baby" moniker.

I agree with the OP. I've referred to my age in months just to annoy people that I think do it with their kids for too long.

My mom calls me her baby sometimes when she's feeling mushy, but I don't think we're talking about the same thing. I do agree that the counting months thing is a bit retarded. Kinda like when the psychotic girlfriend comes up to you and asks if you know "what today is?!" If the response is "our one month anniversary, baby!" then GET OUT. GET OUT NOW.

Someone should totally do some adult birthday cards for that! "Fabulous at 480 months!"

Totally agree with the OP, which really made me laugh. But I vote for 1 as the cut off for both being a baby and for being referred to in months! The whole point of months is that there's no years to count yet, surely? So 1 should be the end of that.

My mother referred to me as the baby of the family right up until she died......I was 48 years old at the time, I wasn't offended by it..

Pet owners that refer to their animals as their babies makes me sigh and shake my head though, it's hardly surprising that that the childed then think pets=child substitute.

I'll be 46 next month and my mother still introduces me as "the baby one" since I'm the youngest of six kids. I prefer the way my dad phrases it, "...and this one here is the least one."
