Thanks Selfish Woman *hugs* It's not so bad now. It will be one year next month since I cut him out, and I'm glad I did. He tore me down so much it took me away from enjoying my life and staying healthy(both mentally and physically), and now I'm out doing things I did before his abuse took over. It really makes a difference when you take the toxic people out, and I hope things look up for you now that you've done the same.

I guess I have one sibling who cares (the one who snapped the photos of our old apt.) He leveled with me and told me that he can't see any way to pay me back in the near future and I told him I never expected him to pay me at all. I'm glad I could help. I just can't do it anymore and be okay.
My sibs have been sending emails back and forth and the concensus is basically that they're sorry that I had a fire, but "it's not like anyone died, so she (I) need to get over it, already. It's just things."
Basically, I'm a selfish, immature drama queen. My refusal to dump my fiancé and live a monastic lifestyle on the chance that something should happen to my sister, requiring me to care for her kids, has proven to the family that I'm not a "team player" and they are "very disappointed," and "expected better" of me. I should always "put family first" and it's not like I need "all that money," since it's just me and my "damn cats."

See the avatar. That is all I would have to say to people who talked about me that way.

What Maura and DVH said.
Like it was said on this thread before, you're the one who chose to be smart. Your sister is the one who chose to have kids irresponsibly. She should've planned ahead and considered that possibility. You don't owe your family anything, especially not if they treat you like that. Why should you be expected to take responsibility for your sister's mistakes (I apologize for using that word, as I'm not trying to refer to your nieces and nephews)? If that's what they think of you, then I say fuck their expectations. Your money is your money, not theirs and they should have no say in what you do with it. I say this is one situation where family comes last, since the "family" is treating you like crap.
Also, your "damn cats"? Maybe I'm sensitive, but that would strike a nerve in me right there!
Honestly, your relatives sound like they need a foot up their asses!
