I'm so bummed this movie did so poorly at the box office, especially if it keeps them from making sequels. I read the series in high school and freakin loved it. The movie was a little confusing at first, but got really good! Apparently it's having a resurgence on DVD so let's keep it going and earn some of their money back so they keep making them! It's a great story and the movie had a bit of a Star Wars-esque feel to it.

I'm pretty sure there will be no sequel. I think I remember hearing that it lost well over $100 million and cost some Disney execs their jobs. I still haven't seen it yet.

It actually did really well overseas and ended up making over $300 million.. Plus it's doing really well on DVD and Bluray! There's still hope! /optimism

I just saw this thing this week too and I was honestly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. I never saw it in theaters because the trailers made it look like it was a bad movie. I think the trailers did it in personally and did not set it up well at all.

Same thing with Treasure Planet. Never saw it in theaters because they made it look like a movie for little boys, but it was dark in moments and set up nicely. It also caused Disney to close their traditional animation studio at the time and cost a lot of jobs. But it too has a post-bomb culture of growing fans.

I loved the books as a kid, but didn't like the movie a whole lot. I guess one thing I realized was that those stories that were so incredibly cool at the age of 10 or 11 or so were rather hokey and corny as an adult. Also, I remember the plots in the books being really simple, whereas this script was really convoluted.

I guess it makes me realize why they halted production on it so many times before.

I finally saw it tonight. I thought it was pretty good although I had trouble keeping up with it for the first half or so.

My guy and I loved it, and everyone we show it to thinks its awesome too. I heard that one of the reasons it did so badly is that it was just some guy's name from the title, and nobody recognized it. >_< I was tickled when I recognized two of the people from HBO's Rome and found out a third was in it too. (didn't recognize him, but when he was pointed out it was "oohhh yeah!") The effects were great, I liked the storyline, and even penis dog didn't throw me off too much.

We watched this recently and we loved it! I thought the story was very good and not hard to follow at all. The effects were good and I loved the dog/gila monster thing. I liked the strong female lead. I really don't know why it bombed so badly.

Him indoors and I watched it last night and really enjoyed it, a cross between Star Wars and Flash Gordon.....What's not to like. :D

I haven't read the books, but you can really see where people like George Lucas get their inspiration!
