The Childfree Life Forums Rules & Policies
Welcome to The Childfree Life Forums, a place where you can share your thoughts on every aspect of your childfree life with a community of like-minded people. The use and content of the forums are subject to the rules and policies below.
1. No Spam: Spamming is defined as posting in a meaningless or obstructive way with the intention of soliciting, frustrating, harassing and/or interfering with forum discussion. Posts comprised of only a quote and/or a single word or series of emoticons are part of what is referred to as “meaningless” posts and may be treated as spam by the moderators.
Posts determined by the site’s staff to be Spam may be deleted, as well as the account of the user responsible for it. Members who make such posts may occasionally be granted a single warning prior to removal of the account, at the discretion of the moderation team.
2. Be Civil: Please respect the tone of these forums and avoid excessive use of profanity, crudeness, vulgarity, hateful language, and derogatory terminology. Venting and healthy debate are accepted and expected, but members are also expected to respect each other, the forums, and people in general. Take special care to retain a respectful tone on topics of a religious or political nature, as those issues are very prone to triggering arguments.
Posts considered by the staff to be inflammatory, intolerant, disrespectful or offensive, whether towards individuals, or the childfree lifestyle, are unwelcome and may result in moderation actions against the member who makes them.
3. No Clutter: Keep TCFL forums clean looking and easy to read.
- Please note the different forums, which exist to group information to be easily found by readers. Consider which is the best forum for your topic before starting new threads.
- Make posts easy to read by utilizing appropriate capitalization, punctuation and paragraphs. Keep abbreviations to a minimum. Utilize specialty fonts and colors only as needed.
- Animated images in posts (including smilies from outside sources) should be kept to a bare minimum. Overuse of animated images doesn’t reflect well on TCFL Forums or its membership. Excessive animation may be deleted. Continued excessive use may result in moderation actions.
- Avatar images may be no greater than 100x100 pixels, with a file size of no more than 19.5kb. Animated avatars are not permitted.
- Signatures are subject to a 255-character limit and may not contain images or large font sizes. A single URL is allowed so you may link to your personal website or blog. This feature may not be used to advertise businesses or sites containing potentially offensive subject matter.
Avatars and signatures are subject to the same rules as forum posts and may be edited or deleted if deemed to be in violation of forum rules.
4. Be Watchful: Due to high quantity of content posted, the staff may not see forum issues quickly without member help. Members are encouraged to help the staff spot problem posts in one of two ways:
- Click on the Report button at the bottom of the post. Please note that reporting a post ensures only that the Moderation Team will investigate to determine if the post warrants moderation, it is not a guarantee the team will act.
- Or inform the moderators using the private message system. (The Moderation team's screen names are listed under "The Team'" link located immediately below the forum list on the index page.)
5. Mod Actions: The moderators reserve the right to take any action they deem appropriate to ensure the forums are not disrupted or abused in any way. The site’s staff will endeavor to deal with problem posts and member concerns as promptly as possible, but they may need to confer to determine the appropriate course of action regarding a breach of forum rules, so responses may not be immediate. What generally happens if a post is determined to be unacceptable:
- First offense: The post will be edited and the member sent a first warning via PM stating why the post was edited.
- Second offense: The post will be edited and the member's posting privileges will be suspended for one week. A second warning will be sent via PM.
- Third offense: The poster's membership will be permanently revoked and an email will be sent explaining the reason.
Attacking another member or excessive use of foul language/derogatory terminology are considered unacceptable behavior. The Moderation Team reserves the right to determine if a post is offensive.
Threads that are locked by moderators are considered closed topics, and thus should not be referenced or re-opened in another thread. Also, discussion of bannings/edited posts should not occur on the forums. Please contact the Moderation Team via the PM system if you have questions or concerns.
6. Off-site Pages: These forum rules apply to member actions on outlying branches of TCFL, including our goodreads group and Facebook page. Your good standing on one is dependent on your good standing on the others. Moderation actions on your forums account or loss of access to our outlying entities may result from your actions in those pages.
7. Your Responsibilities: You are solely responsible for the content of your posts. Do not post content or links to content that is defamatory, libelous, racist, sexist, violates a third party’s privacy or breaches any law. This includes, but is not limited to, claims for infringement of intellectual property and claims for defamation or libel. The laws of the State of Tennessee (US) will govern any disputes arising out of participation in these forums.
On Copyright Infringement: The staff strongly recommends you link text rather than copy it. If you feel a snippet of text is necessary for your point, try to keep it under 100 words, and include applicable source information, to avoid copyright infringement claims. The Childfree Life and its operators will not be responsible for such infringements by the membership and will freely help law enforcement agencies locate a member if such claims arise from use of these forums.
The content of this page is subject to change. While the moderators will endeavor to keep members apprised of changes, members should check this document periodically for updates. For ease of access, a link to this page appears at the top of nearly every forum page.
8. Operator Liability: The operators of these forums make no express or implied warranty that access to these forums will be available at any particular time, that access will be uninterrupted, that the forums will be error-free or that any particular result or information will be obtainable.
The operators of these forums shall not be liable for any damages or losses that result from the use of, participation in, or reliance on any information obtained in these forums. They also make no endorsement of the content; the views expressed are of the individual members and not the forum operators.
9. Age & Agreement: While these forums are by no means a haven of explicit material, they are intended solely for adult use and may contain conversations that are unsuitable for minors. By confirming your membership, and/or participating in this community, you certify that you are at least 18 years of age and that you have read -and agree to abide by- the rules and conditions stated above.
